Editorial Policy
Last updated 2026-05-05
ClearPrice Health™ exists to help readers compare hospital prices honestly. This page explains how we source data, who edits the Site, how we separate editorial decisions from any commercial relationships, and how we handle corrections.
What we publish
We publish prices, payer coverage, and compliance signals derived from CMS-mandated machine-readable price-transparency files (MRFs) that hospitals are required to publish under 45 CFR §180.50. The Site does not invent, model, or crowdsource prices. Our methodology page documents the pipeline in detail.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions — which procedures the catalog covers, how hospitals are ranked, what counts as compliant, what disclaimers accompany payer information — are made by the publisher of the Site based on the data and the public-interest mission. They are not influenced by any sponsor, advertiser, hospital, payer, or other third party.
We do not accept payment to elevate, demote, or omit any hospital from the rankings. We do not accept payment to alter the methodology or the disclaimers. If a hospital, payer, or other organisation pays for any visible placement on the Site (for example, a sponsored message or a verified-listing badge), it will be clearly labelled as sponsored, with the sponsor identified, in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides.
Sponsorship and advertising
If sponsored content or advertising is added to the Site in the future, it will follow these rules:
- Every sponsored unit will carry a visible “Sponsored” or “Paid promotion” label, identifying the sponsor by name, on the same screen as the content.
- Sponsored content will be visually distinct from editorial content (different background or border treatment) so a reader can tell at a glance which is which.
- A sponsor cannot influence the price data, hospital rankings, methodology, payer coverage, or compliance scoring on the Site.
- When the publisher of the Site is materially related to a sponsor (for example, a sister company, parent, or owned subsidiary), that relationship will be disclosed in the sponsorship label itself and on this page.
Current disclosed material relationships: None at the time of writing. If this changes, the relationship and its scope will be disclosed here and on every sponsored unit.
Corrections
We re-scan every quarter, and corrections submitted to clear-price-corrections@geninspired.com are reviewed in each cycle. We particularly welcome:
- Hospitals reporting that a published rate is incorrect or has been republished.
- Payers reporting that an in-network contract is missing from a hospital’s MRF.
- Readers spotting a typo, broken link, or unclear disclaimer.
When we make a correction that materially changes a published figure or a comparative ranking, we will note it in the page’s commit history and (for significant corrections) on this page.
Sources
- Primary:Each hospital’s own MRF, fetched directly from the URL the hospital publishes under 45 CFR Part 180.
- Vaccine schedule references: CDC adult immunisation schedule (general population-level recommendations only).
- Screening recommendations: U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines for the population-level recommendations attached to procedures (general guidance only).
What we deliberately don’t do
- We don’t model or estimate prices.
- We don’t crowdsource or accept patient-reported bills.
- We don’t state that any hospital does or does not accept any specific patient’s plan or coverage.
- We don’t give medical advice; readers should consult a clinician.
- We don’t monetise the consumer atlas with third-party display advertising.
